A.1.3 FUEL SYSTEM ( Tanks are not included in our scope of delivery ):

The fuel oil system supplies the engine with diesel fuel oil or heavy fuel oil. The plant

can be operated as diesel or heavy fuel oil plant. In case of heavy fuel oil operation, the

engine has to be started and stopped under diesel operation in order to keep the

systems running clean from heavy fuel oil.

In case of diesel operation, the fuel is delivered from the LFO or DFO feeding tank to

the HFO and LFO delivery unit with pumps and filters, via booster unit, to the engine

with preceding double fuel filter.

By means of the HFO and LFO delivery unit, the heavy fuel oil is filtered with 10µm and

heated in the secondary booster unit to get the respective injection viscosity. The heavy

fuel oil is delivered to the engine by means of a fuel double filter, filter fineness 34µm.

Description of the HFO equipment which is our scope of delivery:

 HFO system

  1. FUEL TREATMENT SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

After the fuel is supplied to the HFO settling tank the fuel must be cleaned by a centrifugal fuel purifier. The HFO separator supply pumps sucks the fuels from the settling tank via a pre filter and pumps it to the separator )  separator not included in our scope of delivery ) over a fuel heater and a 3 – way separator by – pass section valve. If the fuel is send over the separator the fuel will be cleaned from water and other impurities and the cleaned fuel will be feed to the service tank. If the separator  is bypassed the fuel will be back to the settling tank.

Sludge and water from the separator will be lead into a sludge tank being part of the total unit. An air driven pump will pump the sludge and water mixture to the sludge storage tank based on the sludge tank level.

             booster unit

The booster unit is for pressuring cleaning. Conditioning and feeding the fuel from the service of the engines. The booster part of the oil treatment unit must be designed to fulfill the diesel engine supplier requirements concerning the fuel circulation capacity, supplier pressure viscosity/temperature and filtration fineness. These values are varying from supplier to the supplier and must be given by the diesel engine supplier. The return fuel from the engine is generally equipped with a back pressure regulator. Where after the fuel is feed back to the booster part of the oil treatment unit. For availability reasons it might sometimes be necessary to install a stand – by pump and/ or stand – by heater on the oil treatment unit.

A.1.4 LUBRICATION SYSTEM:

The lubricating oil system supplies lubricating oil to the engine and passes the heat of

the engine contained in the oil on to the cooling water system. It is required to use lubricating oil of the SAE class 40 with a maximum operating temperature of about 70°C behind the engine and a working pressure of about 4,5 bar before the engine. The lubricating oil pressure and temperature are being monitored. The lubrication oil system of the engine is a circuit from the lubricating oil circulation tank over lubricating oil pump, lubricating oil cooler, lubricating oil automatic filter and indicating filter to the engine and back to the lubricating oil circulation tank. The operation is monitored through motor-acted control. Monitored values are temperature (max) and pressure (min). The lubricating oil is cleaned in the main circuit by means of the automatic filter and the indicator filter and in the bypass flow in a special circuit by means of the separator. The plant is designed with a separator for each engine/alternator set. The residues resulting from the separation are collected in the lubricating oil sludge tank of the separator and pumped into the sludge tank of the fuel oil system. From the joint lubricating oil tank and pump unit, lubricating oil is transported to the respective lubricating oil circulation tanks and to the internal cylinder lubrication systems of the engine.
