SULZER DIESEL GENERATORS COMPLETE (4) UNITS LOW SPEED
Historical Background:
In 1982, the Saudi Arabian Authorities decide to convert its electrical supply from 50 Hertz to 60 Hertz. Accordingly, they decided to get rid of the generating sets of low capacities which costs big amount of money to be converted. Some of these units were four diesel engines that had been operating in Elhafouf power plant. These engines were sold, dismantled, shipped and stored in Saudi Arabia The following table was developed from the record of El-Hassa electric company, which shows the actual working hours that each engine operated. Spare parts total 12 containers (20 foot).

SULZER General Information These Sulzer Generator units have been working under supervision of ARAMCO, the worldwide major company for producing oil. It is well known that all power stations work and belong to ARAMCO is receiving excellent care and regular programmed maintenance (Defensive Maintenance) during the service as per ARAMCO maintenance system, which based on operating hours.
These Sulzer 4 units worked in AL- HASSA, K.S.A. under supervision of ARAMCO.
before they were out of service due to the change in Frequency from 50Hz to 60Hz all over K.S.A. They left out the service in its excellent condition because of the best care and unlimited maintenance expenses given by ARAMCO in order to keep them in very good condition and best performance.
These 4 units are in very good condition and well stored in K.S.A., ready for immediate operation.

Specification and Operation
They are SULZER engines.
These diesel engines start and stop on distillate fuel but they run on crude oil fuel. For each set there is a complete system for fuel treatment in which the crude oil is preheated to be easily injected through the injectors.
Engine No. 8 & 9 has 8 pistons each and No. 10 & 11 has 10 pistons. All the engine cylinders were rigidly fixed in a compact chassis which works as crankshaft housing.
The engines are water cooled through an independent cooling system. The lubricant is cooled through heat exchanger out side the engines.
A recycling piping networks were developed for water, oil and fuel independently.
The ALTERNATORS are Siemens. They are directly connected to the engines. Two block bearings are fixed for system centering.
Separate control panels were provided which controls the generation system and controlling the loads. Each units has its own control panel, the four were controlled together. The following table summarizes the specification for generating sets:

Operating Hours	These Sulzer 4 units worked as substitution stations in peak time for 5 years approximately 3 to 4 Hours per a day.
Last overhaul	These Sulzer 4 units has been out of service in its excellent condition because of regular programmed maintenance ( defensive maintenance ) they received during service as per Aramco Maintenance System which based on operating hours.
