More details and information

Portland General Electric coal fire plant in Boardman.

This plant is scheduled to be dismantled by the end of 2023 and all equipment is for sale immediately.

This plant is scheduled to be dismantled by the end of 2023 and equipment is for sale immediately.   This 550 MW coal-fueled electric generating power plant was commissioned in 1980 and had an estimated 20 years of remaining operation when shuttered on October 15, 2020. The facility will be dismantled by end of 2023. All of the plant equipment is to be sold and/or removed from the site.    The original project cost was $525 million.  Bechtel Power Corporation provided Engineering and Construction Management, and Swan Wooster, Inc. did the Coal Handling System.   The steam turbine generator was made by Westinghouse. The steam turbine is a three cylinder tandem compound quadruple flow consisting of combined high pressure/intermediate pressure element. High pressure turbine are 2400 psig at 1000 degree Fahrenheit and reheat steam entering the intermediate pressure turbine is 610 psig at 1000 degree Fahrenheit. Full load operation requires 3,854,940 lb/hr of main steam at the above conditions. Steam exhausts to the condenser at 2" of mercury absolute pressure.   The Westinghouse generator is hydrogen inner cooled; operating at 3600 rpm, 24,000 volts, 600,000 KVA and .95 power factor. The exciter is a 2220 kilowatt brushless design mounted at the end of the generator shaft. Generator hydrogen pressure maintained at 60 psig.   The condenser made by Southwestern Engineering Company is single pressure, two shell with once through dual pass cooling to the closed-cooling reservoir. Heat transfer area is 142,500 sq/ft per shell. Tube material: 90 copper/10 nickel alloy. Has vacuum pumps for air removal.
The Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation Boiler, is a balanced draft, natural circulation, single reheat parallel back-pass utilizing pulverized coal as the primary fuel and fuel oil for initial burner lighting. Thirty-two wall mounted burners are mounted in an opposed configuration.
